The short answer
Reverse VTU's rule by dividing the percentage by 10 and adding 0.75. A percentage of 70 is a CGPA of 7.75. It is the opposite of (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, so use it only for VTU results, not for other universities.
Use the one your university or employer asks for.
This is an estimate. Each university decides its official conversion, so ask yours for a certificate if a form needs one.

Frequently asked questions
Why do I get a different CGPA than my marks card?
Your marks card shows the CGPA worked out from credits and grade points. A percentage converted back with a formula is only an approximation of it.
Which rule gives the higher CGPA for the same percentage?
Compare them in the tool: at 70 percent the VTU rule gives 7.75, while the CBSE rule gives 7.37. The two are made for different boards and should not be mixed.
