What it can and cannot remove
- Word and PowerPoint: a watermark added with the program's own watermark feature is deleted cleanly, and nothing else in the file changes.
- PDF: a watermark the file marks as one, a layer called Watermark, and watermark notes are deleted, and the text stays text. A mark that was painted into the page can only be cleaned as a picture.
- Photos and scans: a pale mark on a plain page can be whitened, and a marked part can be filled in from its surroundings. On faces, text or busy patterns the fill can look smudged. It is not AI and cannot bring back what was hidden under the mark.
- Passwords and locked files are not opened. Everything stays on your device.

How to use Watermark Remover
- 1Choose your file: a photo, a PDF, a Word (.docx) or a PowerPoint (.pptx) file.
- 2For Word and PowerPoint, press Remove the watermark. For a PDF, do the same, and if nothing is found use the picture method.
- 3For a photo, drag a box over the mark. You can also pick the mark's colour, or whiten a pale mark.
- 4Check the result, then download the new file. Your original is not changed.
Frequently asked questions
Is it legal to remove a watermark?
It depends on whose file it is. Removing a mark from your own work, or with the owner's permission, is fine. Removing it from someone else's work to use it as your own, or to avoid paying for it, can break copyright law. Use this only on files you have the right to change.
Will it remove any watermark?
No. A watermark added with Word's or PowerPoint's own feature, or marked as a watermark inside a PDF, is found and deleted cleanly. A mark that was painted into a page or photo can only be cleaned from the picture, and a busy background can look smudged afterwards.
Why does my PDF turn into pictures?
Only if you use the picture method, which is for a watermark that is part of the page itself, such as on a scan. Each page is cleaned as a picture and saved again, so its text can no longer be selected. The first method keeps text as text.
Can it open a PDF that has a password?
No. Unlock the PDF first with the PDF tool you used to lock it, then try again. Older Word .doc and PowerPoint .ppt files also need to be saved as .docx or .pptx first.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens in your browser, and the file never leaves your device.
