Frequently asked questions
Is my picture uploaded to a server?
No. The picture is read inside your browser. The first time you use the tool, your browser downloads the text reader and the language data from the jsDelivr public network and keeps them for later. Only that download goes over the internet, never your picture.
Why are there mistakes in the text?
Reading text from a picture is never perfect. Sharp, straight, well-lit pictures with dark letters on a plain light background work best. Check names and numbers before you use them.
Does it read handwriting?
Not well. It is made for printed text, such as books, notices and typed notes. Handwriting usually comes out wrong.
Why does it take long the first time?
The text reader is a few MB and has to be downloaded once. After that it starts much faster, and a large picture still takes some seconds to read.
