Documents Students Usually Need for Scholarship Applications
Document requirements differ by scheme, so your scheme's notice has the final list. This is the set that comes up again and again, including what the National Scholarship Portal says to keep ready. Start with the ones that take time.
Start these early, they take time
- Income certificate: issued by the competent authority of your state, often the tehsildar's or taluk office or an online service. Check the year and the validity the scheme accepts.
- Caste or category certificate (SC, ST, OBC, minority): issued by the competent authority in the format the scheme asks for. OBC certificates usually must say that you are not in the creamy layer.
- Domicile certificate: for state schemes and some central ones.
- Disability certificate and UDID number: if you have a disability. The NSP home page says UDID consent must be given first.
The usual list
- Aadhaar number, and the mobile number linked to it. Without an Aadhaar: the enrolment slip, or a parent's or guardian's Aadhaar if you are a minor.
- A bank account linked to your Aadhaar (the NSP calls this NPCI seeding), with a passbook page or cancelled cheque if the form asks.
- Marksheets: class 10, class 12 and your last exam. Roll numbers and percentages are asked for on NSP.
- College admission proof, such as the admission letter, ID card, bonafide certificate or fee receipt.
- Passport-size photograph.
- Ration card or PPP ID details, where the scheme asks.
- Details of any competitive exam you qualified in.
Get the files upload-ready
- 1Scan each document flat and in good light. The Scan Notes to PDF tool turns phone photos into clean pages.
- 2Check the file type and size limit in the form. If a file is too big, make it smaller with the PDF Compressor, aiming under the limit.
- 3Combine pages of one document into one PDF with PDF Merge when the form allows only one file.
- 4Name each file clearly, such as income-certificate.pdf, so you pick the right one.
- 5For a photo or signature with exact pixel and KB limits, use the Exam Photo and Signature Maker.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to get an income certificate?
It depends on your state and office, from a few days to a few weeks. Apply as soon as you decide to apply, not in the last week.
Do I need original documents or are scans enough?
Online forms usually take scans, but the institute or officer may ask to see originals later. Keep the originals safe and ready.
Is it safe to share photos of my documents?
Only on the official portal. If you must send a picture to someone you trust, cover the numbers you do not need to share with the Hide Part of a Photo tool first.
