Frequently asked questions

How strong is the lock?

It uses AES 256-bit locking, the strongest kind a PDF can have. The lock is only as strong as your password, so use 8 or more letters and numbers and do not use your name or birthday alone.

What if I forget the password?

Nobody can open the file, not even us. We never see your password. Write it down somewhere safe, and keep the original unlocked file too.

Will it open on other phones and computers?

Yes. Adobe Reader, Chrome, Edge, Firefox and the PDF viewers on Android and iPhone all ask for the password. Very old PDF programs from before about 2010 may not be able to open this kind of lock.

Does Also stop printing and copying really work?

Programs that follow the rules will block printing and copying, but some software can remove those blocks. The password to open the file is the real protection.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The work happens in your browser, so the file and the password stay on your phone or computer.
