Resize an Image by Percentage

The short answer
Choose the percent option and type how big the new picture should be compared with the old one: 50 makes it half as wide and half as tall, so about a quarter of the pixels. The shape stays the same, so nothing looks stretched.

Frequently asked questions
Does 50 percent make the file half the size?
Much smaller than half. The picture has a quarter of the pixels, so the file is often around a quarter of the original or less.
Can I make a picture bigger?
You can, but the result gets soft, because no new detail appears. Enlarge only a little, or retake the photo at a higher resolution.
