Compress Image to 1 MB
The short answer
To reach 1 MB, the target below is set to 1,000 KB, which stays under the limit whether a website counts 1 MB as 1,000 KB or 1,024 KB. A phone photo of 4 to 8 MB usually shrinks to this with no visible change on screen.
PNG photos are saved as JPG or WebP so they get smaller.
We lower the quality, and the picture size if needed, until it fits. 1 KB is counted as 1,000 bytes, which is safe whichever way a website counts.
Your files stay on your device. This tool runs entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions
Is 1 MB 1,000 KB or 1,024 KB?
Different websites count differently. Aiming for 1,000 KB means the file is below the limit either way, so you will not be told it is too big by a few bytes.
Can I compress many photos together?
Yes. Add all the photos and press Compress. Each one is brought under the target on its own, and you can save them one by one.
