SSC Photo for CGL, CHSL and MTS: Live Capture Rules
The short answer
In the latest SSC CGL, CHSL and MTS notices the photograph is captured live in the application through your webcam or phone camera. You must not capture a picture of an old photo, and you must not wear a cap, mask or glasses. Your face on exam day should match it. Only the signature is uploaded, as a JPEG of 10 to 20 KB.
Copy the numbers from your own exam notice: sizes change from year to year and between exams.
The file is made exactly 354 × 118 pixels and under 20 KB (you are told if it ends up below 10 KB). It is counted as 1 KB = 1,000 bytes, so it fits whether the website counts 1,000 or 1,024.
Your files stay on your device. This tool runs entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions
Can I upload my own photo for the SSC form?
Not in the latest notices. They say the module captures your photograph, and an application where the photograph is a capture of an existing photograph is rejected. If the capture does not work on a computer, the form offers a QR code to use your phone.
What if I wear spectacles every day?
The notices say candidates should not wear a cap, mask or spectacles while capturing the photo, and that the face must be fully visible. Follow the notice for your exam.
Why does the photograph matter on exam day?
The notices say the venue staff compare you with the photo in your application, and your appearance should match it, so do not change your look before the exam.
