Sharpen a Soft or Blurry Photo

Images & QR100% freeFiles never leave your device

The short answer

Sharpening works on a photo that is a little soft, such as one taken through a dirty lens or shrunk too much. It makes edges crisper by adding contrast along them. It cannot undo a shaken or badly out-of-focus photo, because that detail was never recorded.

Frequently asked questions

Why are there bright outlines around edges after sharpening?

Too much sharpening makes a halo around edges. Open Fine-tune it yourself and lower Sharpness until the halo fades.

Can it make a blurry face clear enough to recognise?

No. It cannot invent detail that is not in the photo. If the face is badly blurred, a retake is the only real fix.
